Module #2 Reflection

This week, I was reminded of the importance of evaluating the websites that I get my information from. I appreciated being given the opportunity to find a website that I would use for research to help me teach my class about my topic and evaluate it against the criteria given. One thing I learned through this assignment is to not assume that the information was gathered from a reliable source, but to source and fact check myself. The reliability piece and the question "Where did the author get this information?" is an important question to ask and I will be making sure that I evaluate the websites I use more carefully.
This week, I also learned a bit about online discussion forums, which I do not have a lot of experience with. I used to have Reddit, and was only a lurker, and have had it deleted from my phone for many months now because it was just eating up my time, and I wasn't using it for any purpose. Looking at them now from an educational lens, I see the benefit for students to come together to discuss assignments, post ideas and questions, and help study information for quizzes and tests. I appreciate using the discussion boards in Canvas to post assignments and get feedback from peers. I already feel the positive community we're building as a cohort in this program. We also have a discord for our cohort, and my group for a project in another class is connected through Teams and it's been an efficient way to communicate, ask questions, and work on assignments together.
Last, I really enjoyed looking at all the Web 2.0 examples. I found a great online resource called Canvastera where students make virtual posterboards, and I loved making posterboards as a student (Science Fair was my jam!). I'm excited to research some more on this list to see if I can use them with my students.
